Cool Australia and the Australian Institute for Disaster Resilience (AIDR) provide resources to help young people understand hazards and what can be done to reduce their risk. The lessons aim to build resilience in young people, helping them to cope better before, during and after a natural hazard or disaster occurs.
Bushfires are unpredictable and happen every year.
While the 2019/2020 bushfire season has seen WA firefighters deployed interstate to assist with catastrophic fire conditions, those back home have been kept busy too, with multiple fires impacting the Western Australian community.
Emergency WA
Emergency WA provides people with alerts and warnings for bushfire, storm, cyclone, flood, earthquake and tsunami, as well as today’s Fire Danger Rating. Knowing where to find correct information when you need it, could save lives.
Bushfire Survival Plans
Bushfires happen every year. The single biggest killer is indecision. To survive a bushfire, you must be prepared to make your own decisions. If you live near bush, bushfire is a real threat to you and your family.

Emergency Kits
Putting together an emergency kit can help young people and their families prepare for an emergency. Emergency kits provide essential items for families during or after a natural hazard such as bushfire, storm, cyclone and flood.

DFES recommends families have a Home Fire Escape Plan and practise it at least twice a year. In all fire emergencies, young people should know how to call Triple Zero (000) and be prepared to tell the operator their name, address and nearest cross street.

The excursion runs for 90 minutes and the following sessions are available for bookings on Tuesdays and Wednesdays only:
