There are a range of financial disaster relief measures available to assist individuals and communities recover from a disaster event. The arrangements also provide assistance to agencies and local governments with essential public assets that have been damaged in an eligible disaster.
Assistance is not compensation based, nor intended to replace or act as a disincentive for self-help, insurance or other mitigation strategies.
The Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFAWA) are arrangements between the Commonwealth and the State that determines the terms and conditions that must be met to claim financial assistance from the Commonwealth for the purposes of disaster relief and recovery.
The DRFAWA came into effect from the 1 November 2018, replacing the Western Australia Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (WANDRRA).
DFES Disaster Recovery Funding Officers are the State's administrators of DRFAWA and WANDRRA.
