After a Storm

Once the storm has passed DFES’s State Emergency Service (SES) advises you to:

  • Assess your home and property for potential damage
  • If damage has occurred take photographs and if insured contact your insurance company
  • Check on friends and neighbours to see if they need help
  • Check the welfare of pets and animals
  • Keep away from flooded drains, rivers, streams and waterways
  • Be careful of fallen trees, damaged buildings and moving debris
  • Be aware of fallen powerlines as they are dangerous and should always be treated as live
  • Start cleaning up around your home
