Once the storm has passed DFES’s State Emergency Service (SES) advises you to:
- Assess your home and property for potential damage
- If damage has occurred take photographs and if insured contact your insurance company
- Check on friends and neighbours to see if they need help
- Check the welfare of pets and animals
- Keep away from flooded drains, rivers, streams and waterways
- Be careful of fallen trees, damaged buildings and moving debris
- Be aware of fallen powerlines as they are dangerous and should always be treated as live
- Start cleaning up around your home
